There’s Help for You
Many people feel overwhelmed when an unwanted CAFO comes into a neighborhood. You may not know what to do, who to turn to or who to trust. Fortunately, you are not alone. There are groups in Iowa that can help you organize and fight against an encroaching factory farm. All you have to do it pick up the phone and reach out. Each of these organizations have experienced organizers and consultants to help analyze CAFO applications and assist you in formulating a strategy to protect your family, home and quality of life.
Socially Responsible Agricultural Project (SRAP)
SRAP works throughout the U.S. helping communities protect themselves from the negative impacts of factory farms. Its 18-member staff includes engineers, lawyers, media consultants and community organizers who are poised and ready to help any community anywhere that is threatened by a factory farm.

Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (Iowa CCI)
Iowa CCI is a 40-year old statewide organization composed of “everyday people who talk, act, and get things done on issues that impact us the most.” One of CCI’s main focus areas is factory farms, and their community organizers help communities mount an opposition to new or expanding confinements.

Jefferson County Farmers & Neighbors, Inc. (JFAN)
JFAN is a local community group that has successfully kept down the number of CAFOs in Jefferson County since 2005. They created a training program that will teach other community groups how they can protect their counties using JFAN’s successful model. They will come to your county and provide low-cost, on-site training so you can become self-sufficient in protecting your community.
